Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, features 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that features many comforts aside from the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
